1. Are both parties in agreement that they want to be mediated?
2. Are you setting up a preliminary meeting with each party separately in order to prepare them prior to a collective meeting?
3. Are you acting as a guide or facilitator verses a decision maker?
4. Are you able to keep both parties on task by having them communicate constructively?
5. Have all parties involved jointly developed the written working agreement?
The more yes’s you answered above the more likely your mediation will be successful. Being a mediator is not a simple task. Ensuring the responsibility of the resolution remains with the parties involved will ensure committable action plans.
